Honeywell has taken another significant step towards a sustainable energy future with the successful commissioning of their new hydrogen production plant in May 2024. After over 1.5 years of intensive planning and construction, we are pleased to have supported Honeywell with four of our Outdoor Hydrocabs®.

This state-of-the-art facility not only introduces innovative technology but also brings substantial cost savings. The production costs for hydrogen have been reduced from the previous €150/kg to an impressive €22/kg. The heart of the plant is a powerful electrolysis unit that produces 9 m³ of hydrogen per hour. It is complemented by a photovoltaic system with 44 kWp installed on the roof of the laboratory building, as well as a 13 m³ pressure tank for the safe interim storage of the generated hydrogen.

Thanks to this efficient combination, Honeywell can reliably and sustainably supply even the largest burners in their research facilities, with a firing capacity of 1 MW, using hydrogen.

A particular highlight was the successful trial run on June 28th. During this internal demonstration, the combustion of the on-site generated hydrogen was showcased. With the new plant, Honeywell is now capable of demonstrating the entire process chain: from production and distribution to the precise measurement, control, and utilization of hydrogen.

Honeywell is thus setting a strong example for a sustainable energy future.
